Warp Records to Reissue Aphex Twin’s ‘Drukqs’ on Vinyl, CD and Cassette

Warp Records has announced a full physical reissue of Aphex Twin’s Drukqs, set for 30 October 2026. The album will be available on vinyl, CD, and cassette—the first time in years that all three formats have been in circulation simultaneously. For collectors, the move carries extra weight: with this release, every Aphex Twin studio album is once again in print on vinyl.

When Richard D. James dropped Drukqs in 2001, it landed like a puzzle box. Spread across two discs, the record veered between delicate prepared piano pieces and blistering, high-velocity drum and bass. Critics were split; fans weren’t sure what to make of it. The album felt less like a polished statement and more like an unfiltered transmission from a mind that had long stopped caring about expectations.

That uncompromising spirit has only deepened the album’s legend. James had already built a reputation for elusiveness—co-founding Rephlex in 1991, moving to London in 1993, and releasing under a tangle of aliases that made him impossible to categorise. The term “IDM” was often thrown his way, though he found it more amusing than accurate. Drukqs was the moment that restlessness boiled over, and a quarter-century later, its refusal to explain itself remains its greatest strength.

The reissue doesn’t add bonus tracks or remixes; it simply puts the original work back on the shelves in the formats it was designed for. In an era of streaming ephemerality, that act of physical restoration feels quietly significant—a chance to sit with a record that still refuses to sit still.
